How Skin Upgraders Work (and the Real Odds)
2026-09-30 · 4 min read · CS2
An upgrader lets you risk a skin you own for a more valuable one. It's simple, fast and one of the riskiest games on skin sites.
How it works
1. Pick an item from your balance or inventory. 2. Pick a target item worth more. 3. The site shows your exact win chance, then spins. 4. Win and you get the target. Lose and your item is gone.
How the chance is calculated
The chance is roughly your item's value ÷ the target's value, minus the house edge. Upgrading a $10 skin to a $20 skin gives you a bit under 50%. Going for a $100 target gives you a bit under 10%.
Why the house still wins
Because of that small edge, the expected value of every upgrade is slightly below what you put in. Chaining upgrades makes it worse: three 50% upgrades in a row is a 12.5% chance (minus the edge three times).
Tips
- Smaller jumps feel slower but keep more of your money on average. - Check the edge. Sites usually list it in their provably fair or FAQ pages. - Verify results with the provably fair checker.
