CS2 Trade-Up Contracts: How They Work
2026-09-24 · 4 min read · CS2
A trade-up contract lets you exchange several skins of one rarity for a single skin of the next rarity up.
The basic rules
- You put in 10 skins of the same rarity, for example ten Mil-Spec skins. - You get one skin of the next rarity (Restricted, in that example). - The result comes from one of the collections your input skins belong to. - StatTrak skins can only be traded with other StatTrak skins, and give a StatTrak result. - Since an October 2025 update, five Covert skins can be traded up for a knife or gloves from the matching case.
How the result is chosen
Each input skin gives its collection a share of the odds. If seven inputs are from Collection A and three from Collection B, the result is more likely to come from Collection A.
Float value carries over
The output's wear (float) is based on the average float of your inputs. Low-float inputs give you a better-condition result, which can be worth much more.
Is it profitable?
Sometimes. Add up the cost of your ten inputs, then work out the expected value of the possible outputs using their odds and prices. Community trade-up calculators do this for you. Most random trade-ups lose value; carefully planned ones can profit.
